England vs. Poland – Football Match Report – March 31, 2021 – ESPN

England remained on top of Group I with a 2-1 victory against Poland in UEFA World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.

A Harry Kane penalty in the 19th minute was canceled out by a Jakub Moder goal, but Harry Maguire‘s late strike ensured Gareth Southgate’s men a perfect to their qualifying campaign having taken nine points from their opening three matches.

Poland, who were without injured star striker Robert Lewandowski, dug themselves a hole early when Michal Helik brought down Raheem Sterling in the box.

Kane converted from the spot to extend his scoring streak in World Cup and Euro qualifiers to 12 straight matches. The goal also marked the first time the Tottenham star has scored in back-to-back matches for England since scoring in six straight between September-November 2019.

John Stones complicated things with a terrible giveaway outside the box that handed Poland a gifted goal in the 58th minute, with Moder firing home from close range after Arkadiusz Milik found all alone.

Stones helped make up for the blunder five minutes from time, however, when his header from a cross teed up Maguire to fire home from the centre of the box.
