Two of the top-three teams in the West square off on Thursday (April 8th, 10 pm ET) in Los Angeles, as the Clippers host the Phoenix Suns. Not only are the Clips and Suns two of the premier squads out West, but they’re also two of the hottest teams in the NBA. LA is 8-2 in its last 10, while Phoenix has won seven straight.

Suns vs Clippers Odds

Team Spread Moneyline at DraftKings Total
Phoenix Suns +5 (-109) +170 O 223.5 (-113)
LA Clippers -5 (-112) -210 U 223.5 (-108)

Odds as of April 8th.

The Clippers opened up as a 5-point favorite, in a game that features a total of 223.5. LA routed the defending champion Lakers by 18 on Sunday, and promptly followed up that win with another lopsided victory on Tuesday over Portland.

Clips Pound Portland

Paul George led the way against the Trail Blazers, splashing 36 points in a 133-116 win. Kawhi Leonard filled the stat sheet with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists, while Reggie Jackson added 23 off the bench.

Recently signed Demarcus Cousins chipped in 7 points, 4 boards and 2 assists in his first action since joining the Clips, and gives LA some much needed big man depth with Serge Ibaka still nursing a back injury.

The Clippers shot 51.7% from the field, and 39% from three versus Portland, but more importantly, they completely neutralized Damian Lillard. They held the All-Star to just 11 points, on 2-of-14 shooting, which is a far cry from his 29.6 point season average.

LA has been on fire offensively recently, scoring 119 or more points in six of its past 10 outings. They rank third in points per game, sixth in field goal percentage, and no team is more efficient from behind the arc.

Suns Squeak Past Jazz

The Suns meanwhile, needed overtime on Wednesday to beat the West’s top-seed Utah 117-113. Devin Booker led the way with 35, despite shooting just 41.9% from the field, while former Clipper Chris Paul added 29 points and 9 assists.

The game had a playoff type feel, and it’s fair to wonder how much it took out of Phoenix ahead of its clash with LA. The Suns seven-game winning streak is their longest of the season, although outside of the Jazz, the competition hasn’t exactly been elite. Just two of the other six victories were against playoff teams, albeit not serious contenders in Atlanta and Charlotte.

Phoenix held Utah to 44.7% from the floor, and 25% from three, which lines up with their strong defensive play all season. The Suns rank fifth in points against, and are the fourth best team at defending the three-point line.

Roll With LA

Phoenix has actually performed incredibly well on the second half of back-to-backs this season, but let’s consider the opposition. They’re 8-2 in those instances, but only one of those victories was against a top-six team in either conference. Playing on short rest, after a gruelling OT battle, against this uber talented Clippers squad is not a recipe for success.

LA took down Phoenix on the road in their only matchup so far this season, and has performed quite well at the Staples Center. They’re 19-8 at home, and 16-11 ATS. They’ve covered in eight of their past 10 outings, and are 7-2 ATS against divisional opponents.

In the last 10 days alone they have victories over the defending champs, plus Philadelphia and Milwaukee, two of the top-three teams in the East. The Suns may be hot, but they’ll be the latest championship contender to the fall to the Clippers on Thursday.

Pick: LA Clippers -5 (112)
