A controversial appointment as the Instagram star joins ElkY, Daniel Negreanu and Fedor Holz on Team GGPoker.
It has been a year of crazy poker stories and this one might be one of the craziest. GGPoker have signed Instagram star Dan Bilzerian as an ambassador.
Bilzerian is known as a poker player and is rumoured to have played in some of the highest stakes games in the world. He also has over 32 million followers on Instagram.
However, he also courts controversy with everything he does, most notably his exploits with porn stars and guns. His attitude towards women was on full display shortly after the announcement of his sponsorship when he replied to popular poker Twitch streamer Vanessa Kade:
Quiet hoe, nobody knows who you are

Will controversy bring new players to the game?
While he is known for playing high stakes poker, he has a lot of detractors within poker who think that he is not a good player. Although his sponsorship is probably not based on his playing ability which was made evident by his statement in the press release:
In these crazy times, GGPoker is the best option to get my poker on – they cater to the recreational players and that’s the future of poker, not a bunch of math nerds. I’ve battled guys from the $2 buy-in to the $200,000 buy-in tables at GGPoker, and will be working with GG to make cash game tables even better for the average player out there.
It is undeniable that Dan Bilzerian is perhaps poker’s best known name these days. When you tell non-poker players you play poker his name is the one which comes up the most often. He also grabs headlines and amasses young male fans at an alarming rate. The question for poker is whether the attention he brings can convert his fans into poker players or if his brand is a positive association the game needs?
