With a stacked schedule from across England’s footballing tiers on the cards this weekend, the action opens up on Saturday lunchtime. So, for those of you looking to stick on a weekend acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Saturday 13th March
BST 12:30 Leeds United vs Chelsea
Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while some around Stamford Bridge were disappointed to have seen Frank Lampard leave his position back in January, Chelsea have really found their feet under new boss Thomas Tuchel. Putting in another professional display on Monday evening, the former Premier League champions landed a 2-0 win against European hopefuls Everton on home soil. Finding a route back into the top-four and with the mood in their camp appearing to be at a real-high, the former PSG boss is yet to see his side suffer a defeat in any of his 12 matchups in charge. Also picking up a real Champions League advantage thanks to a shock 1-0 win away at Spanish leaders Atletico Madrid last month, The Blues have also gained a string of plaudits for their continued success at the back. Recording another clean sheet against Everton last time out, Tuchel’s side have remarkably seen just one opposition player breach their defence since he took charge. Recording a clean sheet in four straight meetings against Atletico, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton, Saturday’s guests should be smelling a golden chance at Elland Road. On the flip side, while Chelsea might be flying high, Leeds have continued to show some real issues over the past month. Last seen getting hit with a 2-0 defeat against West Ham on the road, The Whites have lost four of their last five Premier League contests. With Chelsea picking up a 3-1 win when the two sides faced off in December, we’re backing a similar away victory in Yorkshire.
Tip: Chelsea win & under five goals @ 11/10
15:00 Port Vale vs Bolton Wanderers
Although Bolton might have endured a horror start to the 2020/21 campaign, The Whites suddenly find themselves enjoying a real purple patch. Finding a route back into the play-off positions and with their sights set on mounting a real charge for the automatic spots, Ian Evatt’s side are comfortably enjoying their brightest run of the season so far. Last seen earlier in the week when picking up a hugely impressive 2-1 victory against second-place Cambridge, Bolton are unbeaten in each of their last 10 straight League Two contests, a run that stems all the way back to January 23rd. Really starting to skyrocket their way up the table, the former Barrow boss will be confident of his side laying down another marker this weekend. With leading marksman Eoin Doyle once again getting himself on the scoresheet against Cambridge in midweek, Evatt will also be excited by his side’s continued success on the road. Knowing that three points on Saturday afternoon could move them within touching distance of the automatic spots, it should be noted that Bolton have collected a staggering 22 points from their last eight fourth-tier matchups. On the flip side, while The Whites might be on the charge, Port Vale still find themselves firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Opening the weekend sat way down in 21st and in a battle to extend on their Football League status, Saturday’s hosts have collected just a single point from their last four straight contests. Without a win since the end of January, we’re backing Bolton to cash in on their purple patch this weekend.
Tip: Bolton Wanderers win @ 1/1
15:00 Halifax Town vs Solihull Moors
Starting with Saturday’s hosts, although Halifax might have shown some inconsistencies when opening 2021, The Blues do find themselves enjoying a recent boost. Putting in a hugely impressive display earlier in the week, The Shaymen traveled to play-off outfit Notts County on Tuesday night and picked up a late 2-1 win to show for their troubles. Desperate to once again land themselves a play-off finish this year and with a maiden Football League campaign on their wishlist, Pete Wild’s men have done an eye-catching job of bouncing back from that defeat against Barnet last month. Now on a run of form that has seen them collect 10 points from just their last four National League matchups, another victory this weekend could see them break into the top-seven. With their recent turn in fortunes highlighted by that dramatic 3-2 win against title-chasers Torquay United, it should also be noted that Halifax hold an eye-catching record against Saturday’s guests at The Shay Stadium. Securing back-to-back 2-1 and 2-0 wins against Solihull when they have visited Yorkshire, Wild’s side should be confident of extending on their purple patch. On the flip side, hit with a woeful 5-0 drumming against Stockport in midweek, The Moors are in the midst of a crisis. Freefalling down the National League table, they have now failed to win any of their last six straight fifth-tier contests over the past month. It should also be highlighted that Solihull have won just one of their previous six matchups on the road.
