Opening conundrum continues
In the match, they lost their opening pair Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply while Faf du Plessis departed for a duck. The MS Dhoni-side was crumbling for 7/2 after 2.1 overs. They managed just 33 runs in their powerplay overs, thanks to Suresh Raina and Moeen Ali. CSK had struggled with their opening combination in the previous edition of IPL. In absence of retired Shane Watson, Ruturaj Gaikwad opened for CSK in the opening match. He had impressed in the last season but could not repeat it against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis, who was their top scorer in the last edition of IPL, got out lbw to Avesh Khan.
In order to fill the absence of Watson, Robin Uthappa was roped in the squad. He was transferred from Rajasthan Royals to CSK. But, he did not feature in the playing XI of the opening contest.
Last year, CSK had ended 7th in the points table. As per experts, they are likely to continue their struggle in the IPL 2021.
In the opening match, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to field first against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the second game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium.
