CSK vs MI – IPL 2021: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dwayne Bravo shine as CSK beat MI by 20 runs; claims top spot in points table – Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 88 followed by Dwayne Bravo’s three-wicket haul helped MS Dhoni’s side to beat arch-rivals Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the opening fixture of the IPL 2021 phase 2 here at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Sunday.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad slammed an outstanding 88 runs in just 58 balls to help his side put up a solid total of 156/6 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians in the opening fixture of the IPL 2021 phase 2 here at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Sunday.

CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. The idea seemed to have backfired as Yellow Army lost four wickets inside the powerplay including Ambati Rayudu who was retired hurt as he was hit on the elbow. Trent Boult and Adam Milne took two wickets each in the power play. Faf du Plessis was removed in the very first over of the innings while Milne dismissed Moeen Ali in the 2nd over. Both the batsman were sent back on duck. In the third over Boult took the important wicket of Suresh Raina while MS Dhoni was sent back by Milne on 3.

Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja changed the match on its head with their 5th wicket partnership. The duo scored 81 runs for the 4th wicket. Jadeja was removed by Bumrah to provide the much-needed breakthrough. After the wicket of Jadeja, Gaikwad was joined by Bravo in the middle who played an explosive cameo of 23 runs in 8 balls. Gaikwad stayed at the crease till the end and scored 88 runs in 58 balls with the help of four sixes and nine fours.

For Mumbai Indians, Bumrah, Boult and Adam took two wickets each.
