Ind vs Eng: Archer all set to miss T20 series, doubts over IPL 2021 too

India vs England T20 Series – Jofra Archer doubtful: England pacer Jofra Archer who was left out for the final Test due to a right elbow issue has emerged injury doubt for the T20I series against India. The Rajasthan Royals bowler had also missed few test matches as well due to the same injury. Archer will be monitored for fitness ahead of the 5-match series that is scheduled to begin on March 12.

If the injury is found to be serious, Archer might have to pull out of IPL 2021.

The 25-year-old bowled only 35.1 overs during entire Ind vs Eng Test series. The recurrence of the problem is likely to raise concerns about Archer’s future in the Test arena.

Meanwhile, England head coach Chris Silverwood has dismissed any talk of surgery at this stage. However, he accepted that England Cricket’s medical team are discussing how to deal with the situation in the long term.

“Jofra’s elbow did flare up a little bit and the medical staff are managing that at the moment,” Silverwood told ESPNCricinfo.

“Obviously we’ll monitor his progress. The medical staffs are talking about how we deal with this long term. He’s trained today with the white-ball squad. We’ll be monitoring his situation,” he added.

His injury became apparent ahead of the South Africa Test series at the start of 2020. The injury was diagnosed as a stress fracture. It ruled Archer out of England’s tour of Sri Lanka, the two tournaments were rescheduled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Silverwood has said that he wants Jofra to be fit for all forms of cricket. He said that the pacer will receive every resource that is needed to make sure he does have a long and successful Test career.

England have lost the Test series 3-1 and need to turn around things in the shortest version of the game under Eoin Morgan.
