In an extremely unfortunate development for the Indian cricket team as well as Delhi Capitals, Shreyas Iyer has badly dislocated his shoulder in the 1st ODI against England. He has been ruled out of the IPL 2021.

While initially, it was thought that it was normal dislocation that would take 3-4 weeks’ time to heal, later scans showed that he had suffered a labrum tear.

The franchise’s chairman Parth Jindal said he was gutted with the news and hoped for a quick recovery.

This comes as a big blow for the IPL 13 runner-ups as Iyer has been in good form. The DC skipper scored 516 runs in 17 matches. It was his captaincy, which has stood out the entire season. The way he used his two lead pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anriche Nortje during the pressure situation was commendable.

It is highly likely that Rishabh Pant, Iyer’s deputy in DC will lead the side in his absence.
