IPL 2021: Injury to Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has left the franchise devastated ahead of the IPL 2021. The franchise’s chairman Parth Jindal said he was gutted with the news and hoped for a quick recovery. Iyer dislocated his shoulder in India’s 1st ODI against England and has been ruled out of the IPL 2021.
“Absolutely devastated and gutted for our skipper @ShreyasIyer15 – stay strong captain – hope for a very quick recovery. Have full faith that you will come back even stronger from this. India needs you in the T20 World Cup,” said Parth Jindal.

The Mumbai-batsman will also miss the opening clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and is likely to miss the first half of the season. “The preliminary view is that he requires surgery but further opinion has been sought from an expert in this regard and if the surgery takes place, which seems likely, he would miss the entire IPL season,” a source told ANI.
On Tuesday, Iyer was taken for scans immediately after he walked off the field during the eighth over of England’s chase. In a flash medical report, BCCI had reported that Iyer had “subluxated” (partially dislocated) his shoulder. This is the second time in the last six months that the 26-year-old has hurt his shoulder. He picked one during the white-ball series against Australia.
IPL 2021: Big blow for Delhi Capitals
This comes as a big blow for the IPL 13 runner-ups as Iyer has been in good form. The DC skipper in 17 games scored 516 runs. More importantly, it was his captaincy, which has stood out the entire season.
The way he used his two lead pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anriche Nortje during the pressure situation was commendable. Also, DC under his leadership since 2018 has improved each season.
Iyer took DC’s captain hat after Gautam Gambhir stepped down mid-way IPL 2018 season. In his first year as full-time captain in 2019, Delhi finished third in the group stage They got one better when they played their maiden final in 2020. It is likely that Rishabh Pant, Iyer’s deputy in DC will lead the side in his absence.
