IPL 2021: Pondicherry offers to replace Mumbai as an alternate IPL 2021 venue, CAP confirms; After Hyderabad, Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) has offered Pondicherry as an alternate venue to covid-hit Mumbai for IPL-2021.

In a message to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah on Monday, P Damodaran, a former CAP secretary, who generally is the final voice in the southern cricket association, wrote: “Please consider Pondicherry also as one of the alternate venues for the IPL in case of an emergency. We have great facilities, the wickets are ready too. We have nice hotels and a good airport.”

“If the IPL teams stay on the Mahabalipuram Beach resorts, it will be one-hour distance each between that place and the Chepauk stadium in Chennai, CAP Stadium in Pondicherry and the Chennai airport,” Damodaran told TOI.

On Sunday, former India skipper Mohammed Azharuddin had offered Hyderabad as an alternate venue to Mumbai for the IPL. Azharuddin is the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).

“In these difficult times there are all the more reasons for us to stand by each other. Hyderabad Cricket Association would like to offer its facilities to @BCCI to ensure that IPL2021 is conducted in safe and secure venues,” Azharuddin had tweeted.

However, by all indications, the BCCI is set to go ahead with Mumbai as an IPL venue. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is supposed to stage 10 games in IPL-2021, but the city is the grip of a severe second wave.
