Jimbo Fisher has great news for Texas A&M football fans as LSU rumors heat up

Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher had a chance to respond to the LSU rumors after the Tigers announced they’d be splitting with Ed Orgeron.

LSU will be seeking a new head coach as Ed Orgeron is on his way out of Baton Rouge. With the job becoming available, will Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher be open to moving out of College Station and to LSU?

Fisher has clearly seen his name come up connecting him to the job. Given his connection to current LSU athletic director Scott Woodward (who hired Fisher at Texas A&M) and that Fisher has coached in Baton Rouge as an assistant previously, there’s a chance that Fisher will be interested in the LSU job.

But if you ask Fisher, he’ll say he’s only interested in coaching the Aggies and finishing his contract at Texas A&M.

Texas A&M football coach Jimbo Fisher doesn’t sound interested in the LSU job

There’s a chance this could just be coach speak and an early denial. Just because Fisher is publicly saying “no” when discussing the rumors right now doesn’t mean he isn’t actually interested in the LSU head coaching opportunity.

And sure, there’s also a chance that he wants to stick around with A&M. The Aggies have paid him a nice, large salary and they’ve got some great resources available to them. Recruiting in the area is great and sets Texas A&M up for long-term success.

But even if that’s actually the case, there’s a lot of time for Fisher to change his mind between now and then LSU will actually hire its next head coach. The fact that Fisher doesn’t have a buyout in his contract makes all of this a lot more feasible for LSU.
