Kansas basketball looks to continue its late season surge with a road win over Texas.
The Big 12 is loaded with elite matchups this week as the league’s top contenders jockey for positioning in the standings. Two of the league’s top dogs square off in Austin tonight as the Kansas Jayhawks hit the road to square off with the Texas Longhorns.
It has been a down year for the Jayhawks, who fell out of the Top 25 in early February for the first time since 2009, but Bill Self’s team has rebounded nicely. Kansas has climbed back into the polls after ripping off a five-game winning streak bookended by home wins against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
Saturday’s triumph over the Red Raiders came down to the wire as a late three from Christian Braun proved to be the dagger. David McCormack also played a starring role for the Jayhawks, scoring 17 points as all five Kansas starters reached double figures in points.
The Jayhawks hit the road today for a game against the Longhorns, who have stumbled down the stretch after reaching the Top 5 in the polls in January. Texas lost a heartbreaker over the weekend, losing by a bucket to West Virginia after the Mountaineers erased a 19-point deficit in the second half.
Shaka Smart’s team has lost four of its past six games, and although each defeat came to a likely tournament team it is still a bad trend at this time of year. Kansas should also be fired up for a shot at revenge after the Longhorns embarrassed them at Allen Fieldhouse earlier this season.
