IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians (MI) – Mumbai Indians are five-time champions of IPL. Looking to create a hat-trick of titles, their formula would be – Don’t fix if it ain’t broke. With Rohit Sharma’s confident leadership and a strong core group of well-established players, its hard to bet against them this season too.
With Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack, they already have a big advantage. Add to that the great skills possessed by Trent Boult and you have a great new ball combination. The pace of Adam Milne adds another dimension to their attack. Nathan Coulter-Nile is another very capable bowler in the reserves for MI.
Hardik Pandya and his brother Krunal can be handful with the ball. But the former’s batting may be more important. When it comes to that aspect of Mumbai’s squad, there is a lot of firepower. Rohit himself is the main batsman in the line-up and he has the brilliant Quinton de Kock opening the batting with him. This is one of the most dangerous opening partnerships in IPL.
If Hardik’s hitting ability is scary for opposition, Kieron Pollard’s power is terrifying. His recent feat of hitting six sixes in an over during a T20I has put bowlers on notice.
The middle order has received a big boost thanks to the recent successes of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan against England. These two have been making a mark in the domestic circuit for a long time and no wonder, are highly valued by the defending champions.
If this much talent and power isn’t enough, there is Chris Lynn to further add to bowlers’ miseries. However, he didn’t play a big role last season and needs to prove a point. The blistering innings played by Krunal in his ODI debut shows that he too can offer a lot with the bat.
Spin is the only area where Mumbai look a little light. Jayant Yadav may have to step to the challenge. Otherwise, Piyush Chawla and Rahul Chahar are waiting in the wings as well.
