Ohio State looks to contend for a national championship this season. Can Minnesota test the Buckeyes?
Another season, another year in which Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are trying to get back into the College Football Playoffs and compete for a national championship. The Buckeyes boast one of the most talented rosters in the country and can certainly make a run through the Big Ten again this year.
Ohio State’s first foe is looking to improve after a rough season. The Minnesota Golden Gophers were really good a couple of years back, but there was a fairly significant regression last season. After going 11-2 in 2019, Minnesota only managed to go 3-4 in 2020. This team has some serious work to do this year to prove that 2019 wasn’t a fluke.
Here’s what you’ll need to keep up with the Buckeyes and Golden Gophers this week.
Ohio State vs. Minnesota odds for Week 1
Ohio State is currently favored over Minnesota for this game. According to WynnBET, the Buckeyes are a 14 point favorite over the Golden Gophers. The over/under is set at 64.5 points.
Ohio State vs. Minnesota injury report for Week 1
Heading into the first week of the season, Ohio State is pretty healthy, for the most part. Safety Jaylen Johnson did suffer a torn ACL and will be out for the season. Over on the Minnesota sideline, the Golden Gophers aren’t dealing with many injuries. Wide receiver Chris Autman-Bell does have a leg injury, but it’s possible he’ll play against Ohio State.
Ohio State vs. Minnesota prediction for Week 1
While Minnesota has an opportunity to bounce back after a rough season, it seems unlikely that the Golden Gophers are able to keep up with the Buckeyes. Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck has been working hard to build the Golden Gophers into a consistent winner and he’s doing a phenomenal job. But still, there’s a talent differential here that Ohio State likely exposes early on.
Prediction: Ohio State 49, Minnesota 21
