Report: Rockets releasing centre DeMarcus Cousins

The Houston Rockets are releasing four-time all-star centre DeMarcus Cousins, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

The move will allow the 30-year-old to find a new home on the open market. The Rockets guaranteed Cousins’ $2.3-million salary for the season last week.

Cousins has struggled on the court in his return from injury, averaging 9.6 points and 7.6 rebounds in 20.2 minutes across 25 appearances, 11 of them starts, for the Rockets this season.

Charania reported last week that the Rockets, who are in the midst of reconfiguring their roster following the blockbuster trades of James Harden and Russell Westbrook, are interested in pursuing a younger, smaller roster centred on Christian Wood once he returns from injury.
