Srikanth says Suryakumar “too good a player” not be in India’s playing XI

India vs England 1st T20: Srikanth says Suryakumar Yadav “too good a player” not be in India’s playing XI: Former India Captain and Chairman of Selection Committee Krishnamachari Srikanth hailed Suryakumar Yadav as a “top-class” batsman and “too good” a cricketer not to be in Playing XI for Team India, saying that the stage is all set for the highly talented batsman to be groomed in.

“Suryakumar Yadav is a class act… a top-class batsman and too good a cricketer not to be in India’s playing XI but then there are so much talent and depth in Indian batting that who do you drop is the big question. But yes he deserves to get a look in. I wish him all the best for a glittering career ahead,” Srikkanth, who as a chief selector always backed youngsters, told in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, another former India player and chief selector MSK Prasad hailed KL Rahul as the best T20 batsman in the world, adding that “dropping” or not including him in India’s “Playing XI” is just “unthinkable” considering the kind of form the elegant batsman was in recent times especially during lPL 2020 season that concluded in mid-November last year.

“I strongly believe that KL Rahul is the best T2O batsman in the world. Not just his form and exploits in the recent past. the way he plays his game in different gears with controlled aggression and innovative shots he is a pleasure to the eyes. I will say he has been India’s find in the past few years and is waiting to be the next big thing for Team India. The idea of dropping him from the squad or playing someone else in his place if he is fit is just not done. It’s simply unthinkable,” MSK Prasad told in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

When asked if Suryakumar Yadav can be given a chance at number 4, Prasad was quick to question, “How can you drop KL Rahul who is the world’s most exciting talent and I will say the best at the top order in T2O format. Suryakumar can wait. His chance will come. Rahul also had to wait for a long time. I will say if India wins the first 3 matches, Suryakumar or Ishan Kishan can be tried as a rotation policy with seniors like Virat or Rohit taking rest for two matches,” he observed.
