T20 WORLD CUP – OMN vs PNG Live – OMN vs PNG Match Preview: The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will commence on 17 October at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground with the co-hosts Oman taking on Papua New Guinea, who will be making their ICC global tournament debut, in the tournament curtain-raiser.  16 teams will battle it out for supremacy in the showpiece event which is scheduled to finish on 14 November in Dubai. Two-time champions West Indies will be out to defend their status as Men’s T20 World Cup champions after Carlos Brathwaite hit four consecutive sixes in the last over of the 2016 Final to power West Indies to their second Men’s T20 World Cup trophy. T20 WORLD CUP – Oman aiming for a top-two spot in Group B: Placed in Group B, alongside Bangladesh, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea, Oman will be playing all of their games in home conditions that give them a fair opportunity to go a step further from their last appearance at the global stage. Oman made the first round of the T20 World Cup in India in 2016 and will be aiming for a top-two spot in Group B.

The co-hosts were the last team to enter the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 after thrashing Hong Kong by 12 runs in the playoff stages of the qualifier in 2019. Oman has lost 19 out of their 36 international matches after gaining T20I status in 2015.

  • Oman vs Netherlands – Netherlands won by 4 runs

Papua New Guinea eye making the maiden appearance memorable: This is the first time PNG will be making featuring in an ICC global tournament. They won five of their six group matches in the Qualifier in 2019 and finished as runners-up, losing the final to the Netherlands.

Placed in Group B, the Barramundis will be playing all their three games in Oman. It will be interesting to watch if the debutants manage to seal a spot alongside the top-ranked nations in the “Super 12” stage against Oman, Scotland, and Bangladesh.
