Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea: VAR Controversy
Olivier Giroud put Chelsea ahead with a superb overhead kick. The Frenchman latched on a miscued clearance by Miguel Hermoso to produce a brilliant acrobatic finish to beat Jan Oblak who could not reach the far post in time to save Giroud’s effort.
The referee initially ruled out the goal for offside, but VAR overturned the decision in the 68th minute. It looked like the ball was passed to Giroud by a Chelsea player but it was played by Hermoso.
Chelsea now carries a 1 away goal lead to play at the Stamford Bridge in the 2nd leg of Round of 16 tie.
