The 25-year-old strawweight fighter makes her anticipated debut at UFC Vegas 21.
On the heels of what some are considering the best card of the year so far in UFC 259, the weekly fight series in the UFC APEX returns with UFC Vegas 21 on Saturday night. The card is stacked from top to bottom with individuals with championship aspirations either in the near future or down the line in their careers. One such fighter is the debuting Gloria de Paula.
De Paula burst onto the UFC stage at Dana White’s Contender Series 2020 week 10 when she took on Pauline Mancias and earned a unanimous decision victory after three rounds.
She currently holds a professional record of 5-2 with both of her losses coming to members of the UFC Arienne Carnelossi and Isabella de Padua by way of judges’ decisions. She has not yet been submitted or knocked out in her career.
De Paula, who trains out of the respected Brazilian gym Chute Boxe Diego Lima, which has produced fellow UFC fighters, Mayra Bueno Silva, and Charles Olivera, impressed White with her bout earning a coveted UFC contract.
Who will Julia de Paula face at UFC Vegas 21?
De Paula will face off against former Invicta FC Atomweight champion Jinh Yu Frey. The 35-year-old Frey is looking to stop a two-loss skid in the UFC at the expense of the young fighter. Frey who currently holds a professional record of 9-6 has not competed in the UFC since October of last year is known to take fighters from bell to bell with six of her nine wins coming via the judge’s scorecards. Her remaining three wins came two submissions and one knockout.
