Marvin Vettori feels ready for a rematch with current UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya, and he made his case known with a dominating win over Kevin Holland in the main event of UFC Vegas 23.
Vettori, who came into this bout as the No. 6 middleweight contender, entered this fight on a four-fight win streak. Vettori scored decision wins over Cezar Ferreira and Andrew Sanchez, as well as submitted Karl Roberson, before scoring his unanimous decision win over Jack Hermansson in December. The win over Hermansson marked the biggest win of Vettori’s career thus far.
Vettori was originally scheduled to face Darren Till in this main event, but Till was forced out of the bout on March 30 due to a broken collarbone.
In 2020, Holland went 5-for-5 in Octagon bouts, tying a UFC record for most wins in a calendar year. Holland, FanSided MMA’s 2020 Fight of the Year, who entered this fight ranked No. 10, competed just a couple of weeks ago at UFC Vegas 22, losing a one-sided decision to Derek Brunson.

Despite a fairly close first round, the fight was a complete domination by Vettori thanks to his grappling. Vettori scored a UFC middleweight record 11 takedown attempts in the outing, overwhelming Holland and giving him little time to counter. Vettori did some major damage to by opening up a cut around Holland’s eye in the second.
Vettori swept the scorecards in the one-sided decision.
