SEC Baseball Weekly Honors – Feb. 23, 2021

Co-Player of the Week: Wes Clarke, South Carolina 
South Carolina’s Wes Clarke led the SEC with a .700 batting average, 1.800 slugging percentage, a .800 on-base percentage, seven runs scored, nine RBI, and three home runs in three wins against Dayton. Clarke was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBI and a three-run home run on Opening Day. He then went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI on Saturday, also scoring three runs in the win. Clarke reached base three times in the series finale, walking twice, scoring a run and hitting a double in the 5-1 victory.

Co-Player of the Week: Peyton Chatagnier, Ole Miss
Ole Miss’ Peyton Chatagnier led all Rebels with a stellar three games at the plate last week. Ole Miss notched three wins against top-10 teams, and Chatagnier finished at the top of most offensive categories for his team at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown. He hit .455, and his best game came in the series finale with No. 9 Texas, where he went 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles before exiting due to injury.

Co-Pitcher of the Week: Landon Sims, Mississippi State
Mississippi State’s Landon Sims entered the season opener with the bases load and no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to face the top three hitters in the No. 9 Texas lineup. The right-hander threw 16 pitches to strike out the side and hold MSU’s lead at 5-1 at the time. He went on to retire all 12 batters he faced, 10 heading back to the dugout without putting the ball in play. His 10 strikeouts are a career-high, as were his four innings pitched. He didn’t walk a batter and tossed a career-best 58 pitches to earn his second career victory on the mound.

Co-Pitcher of the Week: Caleb Bolden, Arkansas
Arkansas’ Caleb Bolden came out of the bullpen in Sunday’s 4-0 shutout win against No. 9 Texas and tossed 4.0 hitless innings, striking out seven while walking just one to finish out the game and pick up his first save of the season. Bolden and the rest of the Arkansas pitching staff held the Longhorns to two hits while striking out 15.

Freshman of the Week: Dylan Crews, LSU
LSU’s Dylan Crews enjoyed an outstanding collegiate debut, leading LSU to two wins in the Tigers’ first three games. Crews hit .583 (7-for-12) over the weekend with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored. He also walked four times and recorded an on-base percentage of .688. In LSU’s 16-7 win over Louisiana Tech on Monday night, Crews was 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, two walks and one run. With LSU trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning, his solo homer awakened the Tigers’ offense and sparked a comeback that resulted in a nine-run victory.
